Competition Rules

1. Eligibility

  • Overseas-born or residing Chinese youth aged 3 to 18.
  • Non-Chinese students enrolled in Chinese schools are also welcome to participate.

2. Age Groups

This competition is for individual participants only; group entries are not accepted.

  • Preschool Group: Ages 3-6 (born between August 1, 2018, and July 31, 2022)
  • Children’s Group: Ages 7-10 (born between August 1, 2014, and July 31, 2018)
  • Junior Group: Ages 11-15 (born between August 1, 2009, and July 31, 2014)
  • Youth Group: Ages 16-18 (born between August 1, 2006, and July 31, 2009)

Except for the Preschool Group, participants in other groups must have resided overseas continuously for more than three years by the start of the competition.

Some regional divisions may establish categories such as “French Students Group” or “Adult Group,” which are limited to regional competitions.

3. Participation Steps and Timeline

  • Registration: Effective immediately
    • Students from Chinese schools in various city divisions should contact their respective schools to register for preliminary rounds.
    • Non-Chinese school students can contact the nearest city division to register.
  • Registration Deadline: March 25
  • Annecy Preliminary Round Date: April 5
  • By April 15: Each city division completes award evaluations and submits the “Preliminary Round Participant Statistics” to the organizers.
  • By April 21: Organizers inform each division of the number of participants advancing to the finals.
  • By May 1: The main division submits the “Finalist Works Information Form” and videos to the organizers, who then announce the list of awardees and those advancing to the global finals.
  • May 2 – June 1: Global finals. Organizers allocate finalist spots proportionally based on actual participation numbers and arrange expert evaluations according to competition rules.
  • June 10 – July 5: Exhibition of outstanding works, announcement of global winners, and distribution of certificates.
  • Summer Recitation Camp: Organizers will invite select outstanding participants and instructors to China for a 12-day recitation camp (participants are responsible for their own international travel expenses; costs within China are covered by the organizers). Specific dates to be determined.

4. Selection of Works

Participants may choose to recite literary and artistic works from China or abroad, or original compositions, avoiding sensitive topics that may cause controversy.

Recitation learning resources: Registered participants can contact Chinese schools for a unique code to access the “Global Chinese Recitation Competition” page on the Yunshang Chinese platform and enjoy related learning resources for free.

5. Language Requirements

To highlight the identity of Chinese youth, participants may use a small portion of the host country’s official language (not exceeding 10% of the total duration) in their recitation, followed by a Chinese translation; participants may also use influential Chinese dialects (not exceeding 20% of the total duration), such as Cantonese, Minnan, Chaozhou, Hakka, Fuzhou, Wenzhou, Qingtian, etc., followed by a Mandarin translation.

6. Background Music

Participants may choose instrumental music as background for their recitation.

7. Video Recording Requirements

  • The recitation video must be recorded in one continuous take, in landscape orientation, and in MP4 format.
  • Minimum duration:
    • Preschool Group: 60 seconds
    • Other groups: 90 seconds
  • The video file name should be formatted as: “Work Title + Participant Name + Age Group.”

8. Awards

Annecy Division Awards:

  • First Prize: 1 recipient; certificate, trophy, etc.
  • Second Prize: 2 recipients; certificate, trophy, etc.
  • Third Prize: 3 recipients; certificate, trophy, etc.

Main Division Awards:

Selection of “French Chinese Recitation Star”; awarded with trophy, certificate, and prizes.

Global Finals Awards:

  • Level Awards: Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Excellence Awards.
  • Special Awards: Best Potential Award, Best Style Award, Best Image Award, etc., set according to age groups.

9. Special Notes

  • By submitting a recitation video, participants authorize the organizers to use their likeness for competition-related media promotions.
  • Participants must register according to their age group and are not allowed to register in a lower age group; please do not register multiple times across different divisions, as this will result in disqualification.
  • The organizers reserve all rights throughout the competition process.
  • The organizers hold the final interpretation rights for this competition.
